Office: first a telecom cabinet, then the network

An office network is easiest to build from one place - a telecom cabinet: our cable comes in there, and cables to the workplaces run out from it. Such a network is easier to maintain and expand.

    A telecom cabinet

Set aside a place in the office for a cabinet (wall-mounted or floor-standing) that holds the whole network: our cable comes in here, and your router, switch and patch panel stand here. The place should be dry, ventilated, with its own power socket; an uninterruptible power supply is advisable.

  2. 2

    A cable to every workplace

From the cabinet, run a twisted pair cable to every workplace, printer, Wi-Fi point and camera. Better with a reserve: 2 sockets per workplace. Label every cable at both ends - then you will not have to trace where each one goes.

  3. 3

    Which cable

Twisted pair, 4 pairs, category 5e or 6, solid copper only. Do not use cable marked CCA. Between buildings and outdoors - only outdoor cable with a black jacket; overhead - with a built-in messenger wire.

    Who does it

Installing the office network, setting up switches, Wi-Fi, computers, printers and cameras, and maintaining them is the job of an IT company or your system administrator. We do not do this: we provide the connection - we bring the internet cable to your cabinet or router, and we are responsible for the connection up to the office wall (in a separate building - up to the plot boundary).

  5. 5

Person in charge of the network

Your organisation needs someone responsible for the network and equipment - your own system administrator or an outsourced IT company (an internet provider does not offer this service). Send us their name and phone number: we agree with them where to bring the cable in and resolve connection issues if something does not work.

Not sure?

Write to us before a renovation or a move - we will suggest where to bring the cable in. For companies it is easiest to write to b2b (at) bravotele.com.
