Our history

We started with a cable between neighbors' apartments in 1999. Since then we have changed names a few times, but it is still the same network and the same people.

  1. 1999-2003

    A network built by neighbors

In the early days of our network there were people we are grateful to this day. It all began in 1999 in the building at 30 Zaparina Street - today our legal address. First, 2 neighbors nicknamed Mega and Drive connected their computers with a cable. Then Sega joined them, then Morpheus - as in "The Matrix" - and Virus. The 6th user was Alex - Alexey Tsykun, the founder, who runs the company to this day. Mega and Sega still use our network, and the weather station with professional sensors segakhv.com that you see on our site is run by Sega himself.

The first network of 6 computers ran on coaxial cable with BNC connectors and network cards. In 2000 Mega invested his savings and we bought our first couple of spools of Category 5e UTP cable - we used it to wire the buildings at 30 Zaparina Street and 14 Frunze Street. Between the buildings the link still ran over coax through BNC hubs: such a hub had 1 port for coaxial cable and 8 ports at 10 Mbit/s.

Later they were replaced with 100-megabit switches, and the cable between buildings with P-296 field cable. Once a 250-meter spool of it was carried in on someone's back. That is how the Ethernet era began. At first the network had no name; KLAN - Khabarovsk Local Area Network - came later. Residents chipped in together for equipment and cable, and the network grew building by building.

Internet came into the network under an agency agreement with Radcom, but the network and the customers were ours.

Back then people mostly went online with a dial-up modem over the phone line - with that hissing and squealing, like a fax, while the modem connected. We were already connecting apartments with a dedicated line, high-speed for its time. Our network never had ADSL: we built it on dedicated lines from the start. Later this kind of connection became the norm and got the name "broadband Internet access".

  2. 2003-2013

    Khabnet

    Khabnet - khabnet.ru

In 2003 the network grew into a company - the telecom operator "Khabarovsk Network" LLC (ООО "Хабаровская Сеть") - and was named Khabnet. Our first backbone operator was Equant (Global One).

We had to wait for licenses: in 2004 the country was going through an administrative reform, the communications authorities were being reorganized, and new licenses were not issued for a while - we even received an official reply saying so. Our Roskomnadzor licenses are dated 14 September 2005.

Soon our backbone fiber network was laid across central Khabarovsk - it is still working and growing today. Every building got its own fiber, and the nodes got backup power. Then came gigabit rings, unlimited plans, and apartment security together with the Central District police department.

In 2011 we organized Sergey Lazarev's first Far East tour ourselves: Khabarovsk (Velicano club), Vladivostok and Nakhodka. We had our own concert agency for it, Backstage (The Most Premium Project) - under the contracts it was the same "Khabarovsk Network" LLC - and Khabnet was the general partner of the tour. It was a real event for the city. In 2012 Khabnet was the Internet partner of the Far Eastern Internet Forum (DVIF-2012) and a finalist of the "Sterkh-2012" Internet award in the "Best Provider of the Far East" category.

    How it was

A Night Life TV segment filmed at our request and aired in 2011.

Back then internet was sold not only by speed but also by traffic - you paid for every megabyte downloaded. In the mid-2000s our monthly fee was 150 to 1,500 RUB, and each megabyte over the included amount cost 1.9 to 0.88 RUB. One mp3 song, about 5 MB, cost almost 10 RUB, and a 700 MB film over 1,300 RUB - about 600 even on the night plan. At the prices of that time. Today traffic is unlimited.

  3. 2013-2018

    Yo Telecom

    Yo Telecom - yotele.com

On 2 April 2013 Khabnet joined the Yo Telecom group. From April 2013 we were connecting home customers in Khabarovsk at up to 1 Gbit/s - already then, 13 years ago.

The rebranding worked so well that many in the city decided a big new company had arrived. Our banner hung on a huge building in Khabarovsk, billboards with the letter "ё" stood all over the city, and people called us to find out who we were and where we came from.

It was a transition period: in the first years Yo Telecom operated through "Khabarovsk Network" LLC, then through "Backstage" LLC (ООО "Бэкстейдж").

In the 2010s, together with the media project CamDV.ru - online cameras and live streams in the Russian Far East - we launched a series of joint technology projects. Together we ran about a dozen live online broadcasts from various venues and major events in Khabarovsk: cultural, sports and public. Our network provided a reliable link, the project team provided the video, and viewers could watch city events live wherever they were. For regional Internet broadcasting of those years, it was a notable contribution.

Where the "ё" came from. Back on the first Khabnet leaflets in the mid-2000s we deliberately hid a "bug" - a tiny "[ё]" in the corner. Years later that bug became our name. But it is not just "Ё" - it is Yo Telecom: in slang "yo" means "your", so it is "Your Telecom".

  4. Since 2018

    BRAVO Telecom

In 2018 we became the BRAVO group of companies: BRAVO Telecom - the telecom operator, BRAVO Hall - a conference center, and BRAVO Travel - a travel agency. After the pandemic we closed the conference center and the travel agency and focused on the main thing - connectivity.

Today BRAVO Telecom is "Scan-City" LLC (ООО "Скан-Сити"): internet for apartment buildings in Khabarovsk and villages in the EAO, TV, and services for business. The same network, the same team - only the name has changed.

A fun fact

Back in 2001, as a postgraduate at Khabarovsk State Pedagogical University, Alexey Tsykun wrote a paper "On computer addiction in teenagers" (in Russian) for the All-Russian research conference "Social and psychological help to teenagers and young people in personal development" (Kursk, April 2001). So we think about the Internet not only as a provider.

- And by the way, we still provide psychological help - in tech support 🙂
