Renovating or building a house? Lay the network right away
Wi-Fi often does not reach the far rooms, and there is nowhere left to run wires - the walls are finished. If you run a cable from the router spot to every room during renovation, later you can add another Wi-Fi point in any room with a weak signal in a minute - without chasing walls or wires on the floor.
- 1
First - a place for the router
Choose the spot where the internet cable comes in (usually the hallway, a storeroom or a utility room) and put a power socket there. This will be the centre of your home network.
- 2
A cable to every room
From that spot, run a twisted pair cable to every room - where the TV, computer or workplace will be, and where an extra Wi-Fi point may be needed. Even if it seems unnecessary now - lay it. During renovation it costs next to nothing; afterwards it means chasing walls and redoing the finish.

Why: a mesh system
Mesh is several Wi-Fi points working as one network. If a room has a weak signal, you put another point there and plug it into the cable you laid. Over a cable the points work faster and more reliably than "over the air".

Which cable to buy
Twisted pair, 4 pairs, category 5e or 6, solid copper only - avoid cable marked CCA (copper-clad aluminium) on the jacket or box: it is cheaper, but carries the signal worse, breaks on bends and does not keep the rated speed over long runs. Look for "Cu" or "100% copper" on the jacket or box. If you see CCA - put it back on the shelf and do not save on it: redoing a cable inside the walls costs far more.
If the cable runs outdoors (between buildings, along the facade, to a gazebo or garage) - only special outdoor cable with a black jacket, rated for outdoor use and resistant to sun and frost. Ordinary grey indoor cable cracks and fails outdoors within 1-2 seasons.
Overhead between buildings (to a sauna, garage or gazebo) - outdoor cable with a built-in messenger wire: without it the cable sags and breaks under wind and snow. The same applies to CCTV cables you run yourself.

Private house: a conduit to the house
If you do not want wires over your plot, lay an underground conduit with a pull wire from the property line to the house. Then we pull the internet cable through it, and there are no wires over the plot at all. It is easiest to do together with construction or landscaping.

What we do and what you do
These are our tips - we do not install in-house wiring, CCTV or cables between buildings ourselves. We bring the internet cable into the house up to your router. On the way we can carefully drill holes and pull the cable where you tell us; laying and hiding it (in a trunking, skirting or wall) is up to you or your contractor.
Not sure?
Write to us before the renovation starts - we will suggest where to run the cable.
